LANDMARK: Whispering Giant Repaired,
Rededicated World-renowned
sculptor Peter Wolf Toth returned to Desert Hot Springs this year to
make needed repairs on his massive Indian monument, Waokiye,
created thirty years ago on the grounds of Cabot's Pueblo Museum.
Waokiye (Lakota for "traditional helper") towers 43 feet tall, was
carved from a giant sequoia, and is part of a series of seventy-three statues
located in every state of the union and in countries around the
world. Toth calls himself a story-teller. My pupose in life is to
elevate. I speak with a hammer and chisel; it's my mode of
communication. Click here to read full story. |
